Agropur, one of North America's largest dairy cooperatives, has informed its customers of a data breach involving the exposure of some shared online directories. We’ll be taking a look at the Agropur data breach and its ramifications for daily operations.
Agropur, which processes 6.7 billion liters of milk annually from 2,908 farm units and employs 7,500 people, produces a variety of dairy products, including milk, cheese, butter, cream, and ice cream. The cooperative generates an annual revenue of $5.1 billion (USD) and owns prominent brands such as Natrel, Lucerne, Sealtest Dairy, Island Farms, and Oka.
The data breach was brought to light on June 25 after a tip was received. Agropur has since confirmed the data exposure but has not provided further details due to the ongoing investigation.
While the breach has not affected the company's transactional systems or disrupted its core operations, Agropur has initiated an investigation to assess the scope and impact on its clients. The company is working with external cybersecurity experts and law enforcement agencies to address the situation.
"There is no evidence that the exposed data has been misused," Agropur stated.
In response to inquiries from BleepingComputer, an Agropur spokesperson confirmed the incident, emphasizing that the breach was limited to a portion of the company's shared online directory and did not impact transactional systems or operational continuity.
"Upon detecting the issue, we immediately launched an investigation and implemented corrective measures to mitigate the impact," the spokesperson said. "To avoid prejudicing the investigation, we will not comment further at this time."
The specific types of exposed data and the number of affected individuals remain undetermined.
Agropur advises registered members and account holders of its brands to be vigilant against phishing attempts, as the exposed data could be used in targeted attacks.
